The house of Tommaso 2025
This project falls within the group linked to interior design -. The character of the place where the n scop geese is inserted links this type of intervention concerns a particular attention to the place where our proposal is inserted -. In particular, the character of the palace, its history and its materials with the aim of establishing a close relationship between Old and New between container and content, between meaning and signifier. Specifically, the house that we introduce is located in the south-east area of Rome.
The palace dates back to the 60s/70s. For this reason, we took into consideration the design linked to the era through simple, essential furnishings characterised by black iron elements such as the bookcases and the glass door that divides the living area from the sleeping area typical of the era. The open kitchen has an element of division with the rest of the living room. We are talking about a wooden element that is characterised as a folded surface that becomes a table,wall and ceiling with strips, containing a series of lamps-. The table can be removed from the assembly to be arranged differently as needed and then repositioned in the initial situation A long bedroom and bathroom distribution corridor contains a series of built-in wardrobes, a laundry room and a small room.
Previously the house featured a single bathroom two bedrooms a kitchen a living room. By structuring the spaces it was possible to recover a series of functions that allow the achievement of more suitable living comfort. The white veined marble bathrooms feature a series of colored walls containing sinks of the same color as the wall, with the aim of giving continuity to the space.
The shower windows, faucets and bathroom accessories are black so as to take up some of the black iron elements of the rest of the house. the bookcases, as well as the kitchen, were specially designed and are characterised in part by the typical construction style of the 60s and 70s (they feature easels on which glass shelves have been inserted and partly suspended and integrated into a niche. The brightly colored paintings alternate with the black of the armchair kitchen and the iron elements. These are paintings that recall the land of origin of the owner: Puglia. Thus colors and materials are thus integrated into a whole that partly recalls the customer’s birthplace and partly interprets what is the nature of the place.

The philosophy behind the studio’s work
altro_studio was founded in 1998 by a group of people prepared to work in an interdisciplinary environment. From the very start, altro_studio began to research movement as applied to the home, ranging from temporary housing to major urban projects. We mainly addressed new concepts of flexible, transformable, eco living space, in order to understand the new, functional and structural needs of the individual. For this and other reasons, altro_studio focused its research on new technologies (mainly linked to automated systems) and innovative materials, and investigated the problems of environmental sustainability.
Our aspirations
Whereas architecture is considered a perfect synthesis between art and science, we aspire on the one hand to facts and phenomena close to the real world surrounding us (expressed by new techniques and materials) and, on the other, to interdisciplinary studies involving music, philosophy, literature and, above all, the figurative arts. Art has always expressed political, cultural and social thought and has always been considered as avant-garde compared to architecture. Figurative art has always been an essential part of architecture.
This is the tool, which distinguishes a true architect from a simple technician of architecture. This has been proved by the research of Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Gerhy and Zaha Hadid, in which the artistic aspect becomes the matrix for their architectural works. Our ambitions come from closely observing the world around us and projecting it into the future.
Our objective is to offer concrete answers to the numerous problems, which affect the real world in which we live. We are speaking of phenomena, which involve the entire planet, such as immigration, mobility and complexity, or of natural phenomena due to climate change, such as desertification, hurricanes and the rise in water levels, or even events, such as virtual communication via the creation of networks, computerisation and the computer. Lastly, we aim to concentrate our observations on the transformations produced by social change in recent decades, and on new ways of living public and private, collective and individual space.
