KRISTIINA LASSUS

Weaving the Essence of Time

Rugs Kristiina Lassus grows from a dialogue between Nordic simplicity, Italian refinement, and long-standing Eastern craftsmanship. Launched in 2007 under the KRISTIINA LASSUS trademark by Finnish product designer and interior architect Kristiina Lassus, the collection translates time- honoured techniques into contemporary rugs defined by clarity, balance, and a quiet sense of luxury.

Lassus approaches each rug as an element that shapes the atmosphere of a room. Rather than drawing attention, her designs act as understated companions that enhance the architecture and atmosphere of a space. Rooted in the simplicity of her Nordic heritage, she seeks purity of form and the understated poetry that appears when everything superfluous is stripped away. Although minimal in expression, the rugs are intentionally designed to adapt effortlessly to both pared-back restrained interiors and more decorative, richly layered environments.

Each rug is the result of a careful, hands-on process overseen personally by Lassus. Designed in Milan and handmade in Nepal, India, or Pakistan, the pieces are created by artisans whose skills have been refined over generations. Wool is spun by hand, colours are dyed with precision, and yarns are knotted or woven in a steady, meditative rhythm. Every stage — from spinning and dyeing to washing and finishing — is carried out by hand, giving the rugs their distinctive depth and distinct, individual character. Lassus visits production sites regularly and works closely with clients to refine customised designs, ensuring continuity from concept to final piece.

Sustainability underpins the entire production. The brand works with long-established factories that collaborate closely with networks of skilled artisans, many of whom are certified by Label STEP. This fair-trade partnership supports responsible production and helps preserve traditional know-how. Depending on the facility, stages such as spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing may be completed in-house or through cottage-industry structures, sustaining the communities that keep the craft alive.

The design language of Kristiina Lassus is guided by harmony, restraint, and a sensitivity to material. Subtle reliefs, nuanced tonalities, and tactile surfaces allow each rug to integrate naturally into a wide range of interiors. Their calm, grounded presence brings cohesion to a room, anchoring furniture, softening acoustics, and establishing a harmonious sense of order.

Crafted from noble fibres such as Tibetan and Afghan hand- spun wool and Chinese silk, alongside vegetal materials including bamboo silk, linen, hemp, nettle, and jute, the rugs combine durability with refined texture. Their surfaces respond gently to light, revealing depth and natural sheen.

A sense of cultural exchange runs through Lassus’s work — not in literal motifs, but in a thoughtful balance of influences. Nordic simplicity, Italian detailing, and the heritage of Eastern handcraft come together in pieces that feel both contemporary and timeless. With the exception of the LOOM rug created with renowned Finnish textile designer Johanna Gullichsen, every design in the collection is authored by Lassus herself.

Designed with professionals in mind, most rugs can be customised in size, colour, shape, and material composition, offering flexibility without compromising the integrity of the originals.

With numerous international recognitions — including Red Dot Awards, Good Design Awards, and the Green GOOD DESIGN® Sustainability Awards — the brand today serves discerning clients in more than eighteen countries.

Composed, grounded, and meticulously crafted, each rug by Kristiina Lassus brings depth, warmth, and a lasting sense of presence to the spaces it inhabits.
