LA FILANDA

Hospitality at the foot of the Alps

Nestled among the majestic peaks of the Cottian Alps, just a few kilometers from the French border, Bardonecchia is a gem of the Piedmont region, located in the province of Turin. This mountain town is also home to one of the valley’s most beloved historic restaurants: La Filanda, a culinary landmark since 1968. Situated at the foot of Bardonecchia’s main street, La Filanda boasts a strategic location-just 300 meters from the train station and easily reachable on foot. A large parking area is available right in front of the restaurant. The surrounding environment is characteristically alpine, with a relaxed atmosphere and the breath of high altitudes, all within the comfort of a well-organized tourist hub.

The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, designed to satisfy even the most discerning palates. The cuisine ranges from sea to mountain, blending Piedmontese tradition with Mediterranean flavors. The house specialty is fish—always fresh and handled with respect and creativity by expert chefs. Dishes such as oven-baked sea bream, mixed fried seafood, and tagliolini with seafood are just a few of the offerings that have made the restaurant famous. Yet La Filanda never forgets its local roots: among the most requested dishes are moccetta di cervo (a prized local cured venison), polenta with game, hearty risottos, and grilled meats, prepared on the spot to enhance every nuance of flavor.

One of the most appreciated features is the artisanal pasta, made fresh daily in-house: gnocchi, tagliolini, and ravioli are crafted with genuine ingredients and plenty of passion. The sauces, often seasonal, range from delicate options like butter and sage to bold choices like wild game ragù—perfect after a day on the slopes or alpine trails. To end your meal on a sweet note, the selection of homemade desserts ensures a delightful conclusion to the culinary experience. From apple pie and panna cotta to tiramisu and spoon desserts, each offering is designed to be a comforting treat, ideally paired with a glass of Moscato or a local digestif.

Not to be missed is the restaurant’s famous pizza— another highlight of La Filanda. A thin, flavorful, and generously topped pizza, baked strictly in a wood-fired oven, as tradition demands. Alongside the pizza, the farinata also stands out—served both in its classic form and enriched with delicious toppings such as onions, cheeses, or seasonal vegetables.

La Filanda also caters to vegetarian guests, ensuring an inclusive experience for all dietary needs. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner, even until late, offering both table service and takeaway options—ideal for those who prefer to enjoy a pizza or pasta dish in the comfort of their home or hotel.

The menu features 33 dishes and drinks, offering a variety that spans from Piedmontese classics to Mediterranean flavors, from pizza to seafood, hearty first courses to grilled meats, and delightful desserts. The carefully selected wine list, largely featuring regional labels, rounds out the offering with perfect pairings for every dish. La Filanda is a haven of authenticity where tradition and quality meet in a casual yet refined setting—a go-to destination for anyone looking to savor the true flavors of both mountain and sea, all in one dish.
